Arts I (e) and Med. : Warrant Officer, 5th Battn. and A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 4th December, 1916, and sailing 29th February, 1917, on troopship "Ballarat "which was torpedoed off Plymouth, joined 5th Battn. in France and served with it until wounded at Passchendaele in September. Later transferred to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station as medically unfit for Infantry, remaining there until shell shocked near Bapaume and invalided to Australia, arriving in May, 1918. Early education at Fort St. High School.
