His service number was 231. He had served as a Cadet prior to enlistment. He joined the 10th Infantry Battalion and fought at Gallipoli. He embarked from Australia on HMAT A11 Ascanius for overseas service on 20-10-1914. J E Pearce was wounded in the foot during the fighting in the Dardanelles and he never recovered properly from this.
