CowperOn 26 May 1939 Cowper was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Militia; he rose to major and carried out part-time duties. He transferred to the AIF in May 1941 and served with the Armoured Division at home. Joining the Australian Provost Corps (military police) in March 1942, he served as army provost marshal, New Guinea Force (September 1943-May 1944) and Northern Territory Force (July-November 1944).
