Some time commanding Submarine Mining Station, Swan Island; with Mawson's Antarctic Expedition 1911 as Astronomer, Assistant Magnetician, and Recorder of Tides; one of six volunteers for the relief party that stayed a second winter, and leader of the southern sledge party; on return attached Engrs. Staff office, Melbourne; awarded King's Polar Medal.
