16.1.17, Chaplain Captain; sailed 19.2.17 on Ballarat, and specially commended for his coolness and helpfulness when it was torpedoed; appointed first to Salisbury Plain, then in November to Le Havre, and in December to 2nd A.G.H., Boulogne; to 37th Btn. January 1918.
On 29th September 1918, about a mile E. of Rossnoy, he was attending to the burial of two men when a machine-gun bullet pierced his heart, killing him instantly. He was buried at St. Emelie Cemetery.
