Called to London in 1915 on State business, and applied for permission to enlist, but was not allowed until beginning of 1916; then enlisted as Pte. in the London Regt.; became an instructor in the M.G. Section, went through an Officers' School, and gained commission in the infantry; served in France with 1st Btn. London Regt.; wounded in November 1917.
He was killed by a shell fragment near Gavrelle on 23rd March 1918, and buried in the Military Cemetery at Roclincourt.
