S.C.; Ormond; M.A.; tutor of Ormond in Logic and Philosophy for three years. In 1912 went to Europe for post-graduate study.
Enlisted in Edinburgh, and commissioned in 9th Northumberland Fusiliers; assistant in Bedford Instruction Camp; to France July 1915; wounded in a bomb accident, and invalided to England; gained captaincy after second Somme battle July 1916; served as Bomb Officer and Intelligence Officer; Company Commander August 1916. Wounded at Monchy. Awarded M.C. July 1917 for impersonating a German officer and discovering an enemy secret.
Killed in action at Crucifix Corner, near Neuve Eglise, on 15th April 1918, and buried near Kemmel, Belgium
