Engrs. 7.12.15; returned to Egypt as Adjt.; France 23.3.16; to 13th F.C.E. 20.7.16; Major 21.7.16. Won M.C. on Gallipoli; Despatches 11.2.15.
On 17th August 1916, while on dangerous special duty, he was struck by a piece of shrapnel, which pierced his helmet and entered the brain. He never regained consciousness, and died in hospital two days later. He was buried at Puchevilliers.
