Enlisting 4th September, 1915, and sailing 17th December, crossed from Egypt to France in June, 1916, and served until demobilisation, although wounded at Proyart in September,, 1918. Awarded D.C.M.* Early education at Fort St. High School. * He had to resect, with plane table, eighteen forward battle positions for field artillery. The only fixed points which could be used were in enemy territory, and were not visible from battery positions themselves, and consequently he had to set his plane table up on high ground between the battery positions and the enemy. This meant that he was in full view of the enemy, who, during the whole time (about eight hours) he was fixing these eighteen batteries, were shelling him with 5 -9 in. howitzers. He successfully accomplished his work, thus enabling the field batteries to fire with accuracy on zero day.372905531470560958970
