On 5th February, 1916, was promoted colonel, appointed D.D.M.S. II Anzac Corps and served with it for five months in Egypt and four in France, where responsible for medical arrangements at Battle of Fleurbaix, till invalided to Australia, arriving in December. Made a C.M.G. 4th June, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Died of Illness due to War Service, Noumea, 3rd September, 1924, and was buried there. President, Medical Referee Board, and Director of V.A.D., N.S.W., 1917- 19- South African War : Awarded D.S.O., Mentioned in Despatches and promoted brevet lieutenant-colonel. On return was appointed P.M.O. N.S.W. Military District and Colonel. Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. A Founder of N.S.W.
