Enlisting in December, 1914, and sailing in March, 1915, arrived at Anzac 29th May and a few hours later  set a fine example of active leadership and self-careless devotion to duty by jumping into the first line beyond the bomb-proof shelter and leading a party to recover trenches which had been taken by the Turks  , being for this commended in Corps Orders. From June served as platoon commander till death. Killed in Action, near Arghyl Dere, 7th August, 1915, after a night march to join with British troops landing at Suvla Bay, and buried in 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery, Anzac. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
