Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew's College. * For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Peronne from 23rd to 26th August, 1918, as R.M.O. of a battalion. He placed his aid post in a railway cutting, where he dressed the wounded of his own and other units, under machine-gun and shell fire. When all our wounded had been cleared he went out and attended to the enemy in the open; while doing so, a shell burst in their midst, killing his orderly, a stretcher-bearer and several wounded, and wounding him.
