After three months in Sinai Desert crossed to France and became Intelligence Officer of battn. and Gas Officer to 2nd Division 31st July. In January, 1918, acted as Corps Chemical Adviser but was invalided to England in February. In June appointed Gas Officer, No. 2 Area in A.I.F. Depots, Salisbury Plain, and in August Officer in Charge of Gas Training in the Depots stationed at H.Q., Tidworth. Was demobilised in United Kingdom 2nd March, 1920, and returned via U.S.A. Promoted lieutenant, 17th October, 1915; captain, 14th August, 1916. Mentioned in Despatches.
