Early in 1916 transferred to 1st Australian Field Ambulance, crossing to France in March and remaining with it continuously until September, 1918, acting as temporary R.M.O. 6th Battn. in the Ypres sector and of 1st Pioneers at Bullecourt in May, 1917. At the end of September, 1918, was attached to Divisional H.Q. and eventually became D.A.D.M.S., serving till demobilisation. Promoted major, 20th June, 1917. Awarded D.S.O.* for work at Ypres III and M.C. in April, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. * In charge of the organization of bearer reliefs during an action, and hearing the officer in charge of the forward bearer parties had been killed, he at once went forward under heavy fire and took charge. He located the new regimental aid posts forward of the former front line, and with absolute disregard of danger arranged for the evacuation of the wounded from these new posts through a heavy barrage. His quick grasp of the situation and prompt and courageous action were of inestimable value.</item661655></item134><item135><item661656><id>40649</id><type>5</type><title>Portrait of Harrie Bertie Lee [ jpg ]</title><hhash/></item661656><item661657><id>72151</id><type>5</type><title>Portrait of Dr Harry Herbert (Bertie) Lee [ jpg ]</title><hhash/></item661657><item661658><id>72152</id><type>5</type><title>Reverse of portrait of Dr Harry Herbert (Bertie) Lee [ jpg ]</title><hhash/></item661658></item135><item148><item661659>531</item661659></item148><item151><item661660><id>72163</id><type>37</type><title>Lee H.B. : Medical Practitioner - @ Wollongong [ NSW Australia ]</title><hhash/></item661660><item661661><id>75044</id><type>37</type><title>Lee H.B. : Certifying Medical Practitioner 3 Dec 1919 - Department of Chief Secretary @ Melbourne [ VIC Australia ]</title><hhash/></item661661></item151><item196><item661662>4705</item661662><item661663>4706</item661663></item196><item263><item661664>6095</item661664></item263><item14058><item1275711>8970</item1275711></item14058></details></record>
