Enlisting in September, 1916, and sailing in December, served with 12th Light Trench Mortar Battery from July, 1917, in Messines and Ypres sectors, and from December with 42nd Field Battery in Ypres and Somme sectors until invalided to England in August, 1918, returning in January, 1919. Awarded M.M.* at Villers-Bretonneux. Early education at Marist Brothers' High School, Darlinghurst. * . . . While the forward section of his battery was being heavily bombarded, Gunner Lecchi behaved in a very gallant manner in leaving a place of comparative safety to extinguish a fire which had extended from an adjoining gunpit that had been demolished and threatened to envelop the remaining gun and ammunition. This action undoubtedly saved considerable damage to material and set a splendid example to his fellow comrades.</item1054660></item134><item144><item1054661><id>35184</id><type>5</type><title>0001.jpg [ scanned_images/LECCHI_Riccardo Giuseppe 1/ jpg 917030 ]</title><hhash/></item1054661><item1054662><id>35186</id><type>5</type><title>0001.jpg [ scanned_images/LECCHI_Riccardo Giuseppe 2/ jpg 628643 ]</title><hhash/></item1054662></item144><item148><item1054663>531</item1054663></item148><item151><item1054664><id>93419</id><type>37</type><title>Lecchi R.G. : Industrial Officer 20 Nov 1939 - Meat Commission</title><hhash/></item1054664></item151><item196><item1054665>4705</item1054665></item196><item263><item1054666>6095</item1054666></item263><item14058><item1275706>8970</item1275706></item14058></details></record>
