Crossing to France with battn., was wounded at Fromelles 19th July, transferred to command 32nd Battn. on 28th, when promoted lieutenant-colonel and served with it until 9th May, 1917. Then was appointed to command No. 5 Australian Divisional Base Depot, being transferred to A.I.F. Depots in United Kingdom 7th January, 1918, and was later Staff Officer for Demobilisation, retiring with rank of colonel Awarded D.S.O.* for work at Fromelles and Mentioned in Despatches. Second-lieutenant, 2nd Infantry Regt., 1895. A.M.F. : Adjutant and later Area Officer.
