Short description
H F C Symonds embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT Afric on 9 June 1916. His regimental number was 13451. He served on the Western Front with the Army Medical Corps. After being gassed in France he was hospitalised in England. An earlier heart condition he had suffered from prior to enlistment was aggravated by his war service. He was declared unfit for general war service and recommended for duty back in Australia in the Home Service there. He returned to Australia, arriving back in 1919.
