After enlisting, C E Pellew attended Officer School at Mitcham, Adelaide. He embarked on HMAT Shropshire from Adelaide on 25 March 1916.
His occupation was given as University Student as at this time he was studying for a B.Sc. at Adelaide University.
He served with with 11th Reinforcements, 27th Infantry Battalion in France.
He re-enlisted for war service on 5 September 1939 after World War II had broken out. His last rank was Major. He was discharged 28 November 1943.
