Additional notes
'Lieut. Frank Hubert McNamara, Australian Flying Corps. During an aerial attack one of our pilots was brought down behind the enemy's lines. McNamara descended to the rescue, despite a heavy rifle fire and the approach of hostile cavalry, and that he himself was severely wounded. The other pilot climbed into McNamara's machine. A disabled leg prevented McNamara from controlling the machine, which overturned. The two officers set fire to the machine and succeeded in starting the other which had been damaged. McNamara, despite his weakness and loss of blood, flew to an aerodrome 70 miles away and thus completed the rescue of his companion.' (DEEDS OF DARING, (1917, June 9).
