E H Johncock became a Junior Teacher with the South Australian Education Department at the age of 17 years. After returning from World War I service, he went to Teachers' College and became a Senior Master at Adelaide High School. He studied for an M.A. at Adelaide University and later became Principal of Murray Bridge High School and subsequently Inspector of Schools in the Northern District of South Australia.
