Short description
J G Sweeney had served in the Citizens Forces of the 19th Australian Army Medical Corps for 4 years as a Corporal prior to enlisting for overseas service.
After embarking from Australia in May 1916 he served in France 1916-17 and was recommended for a Military Cross for his coolness and gallantry under fire. However, this did not eventuate. He was awarded with the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
J G Sweeney was the President of 11th Field Ambulance Returned Soldiers Club for 25 years.
