Notes
H S Cleary served in Egypt and on the Western Front. He was granted Leave with Pay between June and August 1919 and was in non-military employment on a poultry farm during that time. He failed to report to the AIF Depot at Sutton Veny to await transport back to Australia. For this he was declared a deserter. He was later discovered working on a farm near Maidstone in Kent under the assumed surname of Murray.
His medal entitlements were later restored in 1926: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
