A R Southwood remained in the Citizens Military Forces after World War I. He was Commanding Officer of 8 Field Hygiene Section in 1932 and Commanding Officer of 3 Field Ambulance from 1933, with promotion to Lieutenant Colonel.
During World War II he was Deputy Director of Medical Services for 4 Military District from 1940-1943 with the temporary rank of Colonel.
