Short description
W L Smith was attached to the 13th Field Artillery Brigade as Regimental Medical Officer in 1917 before returning to 13th Field Ambulance unit later the same year. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1918 for "conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while in charge of stretcher bearers and posts...and by fearlessness and determination..." He was promoted to Major in September 1918.
