On his return to South Australia after World War I, GS Shipway set up his practice at Victor Harbor. He became a prominent member of the community: he was made a Trustee of the new Victor Harbor and South Coast District Hospital in 1925 and was President of the local Sub Branch of the Returned Servicemen's League for 15 years. He was a visiting Medical Officer at the South Coast Hospital and in 1938 was made President of the Recruiting Committee for the Citizens' Military Forces.
