H.C. Nott studied radiology at King's College Hospital in London following World War I. When he returned to Australia in 1920 he became a full-time radiologist, conducting his practice from his home in Hutt Street. In 1921 he was appointed Honorary Radiologist at the Adelaide Hospital and at the Repatriation Hospital.
During World War II he was Radiologist with 2/2 Australian General Hospital and made Consultant Radiologist to the AIF in 1941.
