E A Guymer joined the AIF in 1915 and went first to Gallipoli. Later he was posted to France as RMO of 17 Battalion. he was Mentioned in Despatches in 1917 and promoted to Major in 1918. he was subsequently posted to England and stayed there till the end of the war.
He studied for and passed the FRCS Examination in Edinburgh.
