B.A. PhD (Jena) Not listed in the 1939 Book of Remembrance. From August 1914 he was a military interpreter, termed an assistant censor from 1916. On 16 October 1918 he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, but did not go overseas. [ADB entry]
He was Chairman of the Administrative Committee for the education of Australian Soldier students in Great Britain, he strove for co-operation amongst the universities of the Empire and returning to Australia via the USA he wrote a valuable report on the American Universities from an Australian point of view.
