D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S.: MAJOR, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and France. Enlisting 4th February 1915, and sailing 10th April as S.M.O. hospital ship "Karoola", was M.O. at No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Cairo, and R.M.O. 4th Battalion for nearly two years, in Gallipoli, including Lone Pine, and in France, at Pozieres and elsewhere. Promoted major, 29th January, 1919, and to command 1st Field Ambulance, later becoming D.A.D.M.S. 1st Division and serving til demobilisation. Awarded D.S.O. 3rd June 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. Early education at Mackenzie's School Bowral and Dulwich College England. Later at St Paul's and in the Faculty of Arts.
