From Australian dictionary of Biography: "Five ft 5ΒΌ ins (166 cm) tall and compactly built, Reed had been a keen tennis player as a young man. He belonged to the Adelaide, Royal Adelaide Golf and Adelaide Oval Bowling clubs, and the Commonwealth Club, Canberra. Chairman (1940) of the Red Cross Emergency Service Committee, he was founding president (1963) of the Asthma Foundation of South Australia and a life member (from 1942) of the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia. He was also a Freemason and a grand master (1953-56) of the Grand Lodge of South Australia."
