Arts I : Major,11th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt, England and France. Enlisting as captain, 10th February, 1915, and sailing with A.L.H. Reinforcements, joined 11th Battn. at Anzac 7th June. Served as company commander from 11th July till wounded by a bomb, 6th August, and evacuated to hospital at Cairo. On 28th appointed O.C. A Details, Zeitoun, and on 21st December transferred to 3rd Training Battn., commanding at Abbassia, Aerodrome Camp, Tel-el-Kebir, and, after 31st May, 1916, in England. Rejoining 11th Battn. on the Somme, 10th November, as second in command, served at Flers, Ypres, Bullecourt and elsewhere until 8th September, 1917, when appointed Permanent President of Courts Martial, returning in 1920. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at The Royal School of Mines, London University.
