Mr Griffiths was admitted to the Law Faculty, University of Adelaide in 1910.  He won the David Murray Scholarship in 2 consecutive years. In 1913, Mr Griffiths graduated with 3 first class: Roman law, Theory of Law and Legislation, Evidence and Procedure. That year, he won the Stow Prize, the highest honor in law which required at least 2 first classes.
