C.M.G., M.B.E., B.A. : Captain, Australian Provost Corps and 7th Bde., A.F.A., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 3rd April, 1916, and sailing in May, served in France as gunner and later as acting-sergeant at 7th Field Artillery Brigade H.Q. until 7th November when transferred to Anzac Provost Corps, becoming Adjutant in April, 1917. Appointed Deputy Assistant Judge Advocate General, H.Q., A.I.F. Depots in United Kingdom in December and transferred to Australian Provost Corps in France 16th June, 1918, being attached to Australian Corps H.Q. from 22nd July till demobilisation. Promoted second-lieutenant, 1st January, 1917, lieutenant, 22nd April, and temp, captain, 15th December. Awarded M.B.E. in 1919. Chairman, Public Service Board, 1919-25, and since then Chairman, Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission. Early education at East Maitland Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
