Enlisting 1st October, 1916, and sailing 17th November, served at Parkhouse, Salisbury Plain, till 25th June, 1917, and on surgical work at No. 1 1 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, till 7th August. Then joined 13th Australian Field Ambulance, being R.M.O. 4th Pioneer Battn. from 18th February, 1918, and with 12th A.F.Amb. from 13th September till demobilisation. Promoted major, 1st July, 1918. Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
