St. Andrew Coll. and Corporate H.S., Bendigo; Ormond; LL.M.; 1st class and exhibition in Logic 1907, and in Philosophy 1908; 1st classes and two exhibitions 1909; 1st class finals with scholarship and Supreme Court Prize 1911; admitted to bar 1912; College athletic team; played for Bendigo United C.C.; commissioned in Citizen Forces 1911 to July 1914, and applied for reinstatement on outbreak of war; attended instructional camp January 1915 and qualified for captaincy.
26.4.15, 2/Lt. 22nd Btn.; Capt. 1.5.15; sailed 8.5.15; Gallipoli from August to evacuation, most of the time in command of battalion; to Egypt, thence to France 26.3.16; Fleurbaix and Armentieres; M.I.D. Pozieres.
On the night of 4th August 1916, while leading the first half of his battalion against the German position on the ridge beyond Pozieres, he was killed by machine-gun fire.
