M.C., M.B., Ch.M., M.C.O.G., D.G.O. : Lieutenant, 34th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting n th December, 1915, and sailing 2nd May, 1916, as acting corporal, 34th Battn., arrived in England in June, was made sergeant in July and sent to Musketry and 1st Australian Officers Training Schools in August and September. Crossing to France 22nd November, spent winter in the Line before Armentieres and was appointed Battn. Signalling Officer and served at Messines, Ypres and elsewhere till wounded at Passchendaele 12th October, 1917, and evacuated to Rouen, Wandsworth and Australia, arriving 23rd March, 1918. Promoted second-lieutenant, 17th January, 1917, and lieutenant 30th May. Awarded M.C. for services at Messines 7th June, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Armidale District School.
