M.C., D.Sc.Agr., D.I.C. (Lond.), F.L.S. : Lieutenant, 2nd Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 15th June, 1915, and sailing with 14th Reinforcements, 2nd Battn., 16th January, 1916, after being commissioned 1st December, served in Egypt till March, then crossed from Egypt to France and fought with battn. till after Pozieres. Later was made 1st Brigade Officer, serving until wounded near Flers 12th November and invalided to Australia, arriving 12th March, 1917. Awarded M.C.* for work at Pozieres and Mentioned in Despatches. 1851 Exhibitioner. Walter and Eliza Hall Fellow. Lecturer and Demonstrator, 1921-36. Reader in Agriculture, 1937. Acting Professor, 1938. Early education at Sydney High School. Later at Hawkesbury College and Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. *  For conspicuous gallantry in the capture of an enemy's strong post which he had been sent to examine. He took several prisoners. Later, during a heavy bombardment, he set a fine example to his company.
