HARPER, HAROLD WILLIAM. 1904.
Hawthorn G.S. and S.C.; Ormond; LL.B.; School XVIIL and XL,
College XL; completed articles and practised as a solicitor.
Rejected thrice in 1915; underwent an operation, and accepted in April 1916; in the meantime had joined the A.M.F. for Home Service, and done much military work; promoted Sgt. 21st Btn. in camp, and, after further training, Sgt.-Major. Sailed October 1916 as Senior N.C.O. of section. Officers' School at Cambridge; commissioned July 1917, and joined Bde. in France. At Broodseinde Ridge, on 4th October 1917, he was sitting in a dugout just captured when a chance 77 mm. shell killed him instantly. He was buried where he fell.
