Arts III : Captain, 2nd Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 20th August, 1914, and sailing with battn., served at Gallipoli from the Landing until wounded at Lone Pine, 8th August. On recovery rejoined battn. and, crossing to France in March, fought at Fleurbaix, the Somme and elsewhere till invalided to Australia, arriving in June, 1917. Promoted second-lieutenant, 4th August, 1915; lieutenant, 28th January, 1916, and captain, 9th August. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
