D.S.O., V.D., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 1st June, 1915, and sailing 14th July with unit for hospital ship Kanowna , joined as Adjutant in England and, after second trip, transferred in Australia to 9th Australian Field Ambulance in March, 1916, arriving 23rd November at Armentieres, where wounded 12th December. Returning to unit three weeks later, was D.A.D.M.S. 3rd Division, from August, 1917, until wounded again at Doingt, 9th September, 1918, and evacuated to England. In November was appointed to staff, No. 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, and served until demobilisation, after attending special orthopaedic course at Shepherd's Bush Hospital. Awarded D.S.O. 3rd June, 1918, and Medaille de la Reconnaissance Frangaise and Mentioned in Despatches twice. A.M.F. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., D.A.D.M.S. 1st Div., 1921-22, O.C. 2nd Field Hygiene Section, 1928-30, 4th Cav. F.Amb., 1930-34. Early education at Fort St. Model Public School.
