Geelong Coll.; Ormond; 3rd year Law; dux of his school and, according to the late Norman Morrison, " the brightest pupil he had ever known "; Wyselaskie scho lar, Dwight Final Honour s Hi story Prizeman, Cobden Medallist, Shakespeare Society Prizeman, Sir William Zeal Prizeman; when hardly in his teens rewarded by Royal Humane Society for saving a companion from drowning; school first XVIII., and in Head of River Boat 1911.
18.8.14, Pte. 5th Btn.; sailed October 1914; in Egypt selected for a commission, and gazetted 2/Lt. 5th Btn. Royal Scots, 29th Div., which formed part of the Mediterranean E.F. He was killed in the firing line trenches at Cape Helles on 7th August 1915, being shot by a sniper during an assault, and dying in a few minutes. He was buried at Geoghegan's Bluff.
