Early education at Sydney High School. Sailing in November, 1915, as Surgeon of troopship “ Ascanius ”
to Suez and Mudros, made two trips back to Alexandria and Port Said at the time of the Evacuation and subsequently continued on troopship—20 months in all. Enlisting in A.A.M.C. ist May, 1917, and sailing in July, was at Salisbury Plain for two months as M.O., No. 1 Dermatological Hospital, and then for seven months on Board
work at Weymouth. Lent to 51st (Scottish) Division with five other Australian M.O.’s, was with Highland Field Ambulance in Bethune sector at Epernay from 8th April, 1918, to ist September. Joining
14th A.F.Amb. 3rd October, became R.M.O. 54th Battn., 13th and 14th Field Artillery Brigades and returned in July, 1920, after six months’ non-military employment.
