AGNEW, JAMES WHITSON AINSLIE. 1914.
S.C. (prefect and champion debater); 3rd year Arts; 1st class in English and in Logic; 2nd class in British History in first year; played in one of the lacrosse teams and represented the University in the 5 miles cross-country championship at Ballarat.
Aug. 1915, after special exam.; Pte. A.A.M.C., first at Base Hospital, then at Broadmeadows Camp; sailed as Sgt. A.A.M.C. rfts. Mar. 1916. Egypt till end of May, then to France, attd. 12th Fld. Amb. as stretcher-bearer (Pte.), and continued with this unit till his death.
At Menin Road E. of Ypres, on 29th September 1917, he was killed by an enemy barrage when returning as stretcher-bearer to bring in wounded. He and D. V. K. Anderson enlisted together, served together, and fell together.
