Enlisted June 1915; sailed 7.3.16, 2/Lt. 24th Btn.; in Egypt on patrol duty and instruction; to 53rd Btn. 2.5.16; Lieut. 6.9.16; to France from England 4.11.16; twice invalided with trench fever; 61st Btn. 23.3.17 - 14.9.17; Capt. 1.10.17; to France again from sick leave 4.11.17; awarded M.C. for gallantry at Mesnil 28.7.18.
On 30th September 1918, at the Bellicourt Tunnel, he organised a flank attack on the enemy, who were counter-attacking. His attack was successful, but he was shot in the neck by a machine -gun bullet and killed instantaneously. He was buried in Tincourt Military Cemetery.
