STEVENS, EDWARD TOYNBEE. 1914.
M.C.E.G.S.; represented school in Public Schools championship; Dental Coll.; L.D.S.; a candidate for D.D.Sc. 1914; held commission in Citizen Forces as 2/Lt. 55th Inf.
24.8.14; sailed 21.10.14, 2/Lt. 5th Ben.; declared permanently unfit, and took discharge in Egypt 31.5.15; went to England and was granted temp. commission in 13th Reserve Ben. Notts and Derbys 1.7.15; wounded in France, and four times at Suvla Bay; was afterwards in Sinai, and again in France in July 1916; promoted T Capt., but resigned to become Lieut. in A.I.F., posted for duty as 3rd Div. T.M. Officer 21.11.16; to 3rd Div. Arty.
16.1.17; 3rd D.A.C. 18.2.17; evacuated sick March-May 1917; to 37th Ben. 6.6.17.
On 11th October 1917, at Springfield Farm, near Zonnebeke, while returning from liaison duty with another Bde., he was killed by a shell.
