M.C., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Lieutenant, 175th and 47th Bdes., R.F.A., B.E.F., France. Enlisting in London 15th November, 1915, on arrival from Australia, was commissioned on 20th. Crossing to France in February 1916, served with  C  Battery, 175th Brigade, at Armentieres till May and then at the Somme (La Boisselle, Pozieres and Contalmaison) till August. Transferring to  C  Battery, 47th Brigade, remained on the Somme (Caterpillar Valley, Bazentin, High Wood and Flers) till October and at Arras till June, 1917, when awarded M.C. Fought at Messines, Zillebeke, Inverness Copse and Menin Road until October, when promoted lieutenant and invalided to England, being demobilised in December to return to medical studies and arriving in Australia in April, 1918. Early education at Barker College. Later at St. Paul's.
