At outbreak of war was Lieut. in 14th Hussars (King's Own); served in France with British 1st E.F. August 1914; attached 20th Hussars and then 4th Hussars till May 1915; then rejoined regiment (in India) and served in Mesopotamia from November 1915 till armistice; promoted Capt. Awarded M.C. 11.10.17. Subsequently on duty in England and with Army of Occupation, Cologne.
