Brighton G.S.; held school records in pole vaulting; 4th year Engineering.
26.8.14; sailed 21.10.14 with first contingent as 2/Lt. 2nd F.C.E.; Lieut. 1.2.15; pre sent at Anzac landing; Capt. 26.7.15; severely wounded in July but, though offered furlough home, rejoined unit and was at the evacuation; to 2nd Div. Engrs. 7.12.15; returned to Egypt as Adjt.; France 23.3.16; to 13th F.C.E. 20.7.16; Major 21.7.16. Won M.C. on Gallipoli; Despatches 11.2.15.
On 17th August 1916, while on dangerous special duty, he was struck by a piece of shrapnel, which pierced his helmet and entered the brain. He never regained consciousness, and died in hospital two days later. He was buried at Puchevilliers.
