V.C., LL.B., Administrative Staff: Captain, 19th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 10th May, 1915, and sailing 23rd December as secondlieutenant in charge of 19th Battn. reinforcements, joined battn. in Egypt. Crossing to France, was seriously wounded at Flers 14th November, 1916, and evacuated to hospital in England. Rejoining battn. in April, 1917, was again wounded at Passchendaele 10th October, but continued to serve at Messines, Villers-Bretonneux and the Somme until return to Australia in November, 1918. Promoted lieutenant, 18th December, 1916; captain, 16th May, 1918. Awarded V.C.* for work at Hangard Wood. Early education at Napier Boys' Grammar School (Dux). Later at Victoria College, Wellington, N.Z. *  Commanding an attacking platoon, he observed, on emerging from a wood, 80 or 100 Germans, with several machine-guns holding up the advance of the troops on his right. Lieutenant Storkey had only 6 men, but Lieutenant Lipscomb with 4 men joined him and Storkey decided to attack the enemy in the flank and rear. The two officers and the ten men charged with the bayonet, Storkey in the lead, and expelled the enemy. They killed or wounded 30 and captured three officers and 50 men and the machine-guns. Storkey's courage and promptness and the skilful attack removed a dangerous obstacle to the advance and were a great inspiration to the remainder of the party.
