D.S.O., M.C., B.E. (Adel.), Econ. II : Major, 2nd and 10th Squadrons, R.A.F., B.E.F., France and Germany. Enlisting in London in December, 1915, was commissioned 23rd February, 1916, served with Nos. 2, 19 and 8 Reserve Squadrons, and in France with No. 10 from 15th May, being promoted flying officer on 18th, and lieutenant, 1st July. Transferring to 2nd Squadron, 12th August, 1917, became squadron commander (temporary major) on 16th and major, 1st April, 1918. Returned to Uxbridge and Flowerdown for repatriation 15th July, 1919, after service at rear H.O., Army of Rhine, in June. Awarded D.S.O.* in 1918 and M.C. 26th March, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. Early education at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide. *  During a flight lasting three hours and forty minutes, he successfully registered two siege batteries on a hostile battery and observed 100 and 150 rounds respectively. On one occasion he made four trips and dropped twelve 112 lb. bombs on two aerodrome objectives. He has carried out a number of successful counter-battery and trench registration shoots under exceedingly unfavourable weather conditions and has at all times carried out his duties in a thoroughly keen and able manner, showing a magnificent spirit of dash and energy.
